Call To Worship – Psalm 104:1-2; 31-35
Praise the LORD, O my soul.
O Lord my God, you have become exceedingly glorious;
you are clothed with majesty and honor.
You clothe yourself with light as with a garment,
and spread out the heavens like a curtain.
The glorious majesty of the LORD shall endure for ever;
the Lord shall rejoice in his works.
He looks at the earth and it trembles;
if he even touches the hills, they shall smoke.
I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live;
I will praise my God while I have my being,
And so shall my words please him;
my joy shall be in the LORD.
As for sinners, they shall perish from the earth,
and the ungodly shall come to an end.
Praise the LORD, O my soul.
Praise the LORD.
Confession of Sin
Most merciful God, you love us perfectly.
You who were clothed with light as a garment,
cloaked yourself in the frailty of human flesh,
to be with us in every way, beset with weakness,
tempted as we are, and yet without sin.
And so you are able to love us all the more perfectly,
meeting us in the infirmity of our mortality,
and dealing gently with our waywardness and ignorance.
We do not love as you love.
Our love for one another is tainted by our brokenness,
afflicted by the selfishness of our rebel hearts.
When we abound in grace for others without truth,
lacking from fear the courageous love required
to call a brother or sister to repentance,
to walk with them on the road form death to life,
we put our own security before the health of their soul.
When we offer to others trite and empty platitudes
words that would comfort our own hearts,
instead of the silent presence that would be a true comfort,
we look not toward the good of our neighbor,
but rather to alleviate our own discomfort.
But it is not so with you, O Father.
Jesus our Lord is our great high priest,
full of grace and truth in perfect measure.
He is able both to confront us in our sin
and to meet us in our suffering.
Have mercy on us, O God,
that we may not be hardened by sin,
but turn to you by trusting Jesus,
approaching your throne with boldness
to receive your grace in our need.
For our failure to love you and our neighbors,
for the sins of our selfishness in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done and by what we have left undone,
we now come and confess…
Assurance of Pardon - Hebrews 10:19-23
Hear the good news of what Jesus has done:
Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
Jesus, our great high priest,
has made a way for us to the Father,
by the sacrifice of his own perfect blood.
In him, we are washed and made clean,
and our humanity, our own flesh,
is seated at the right hand of God.
We are with him forever.
Rejoice, O child, in the love of Jesus
your priest, your king, your savior.

Reading of Scripture – Hebrews 3:12-13; 4:14-5:7
See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people. And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God, just as Aaron was.
In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him,
“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father.”
And he says in another place,
“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.”
During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.
This is the Word of the Lord;
Thanks be to God.
